Wind kinetic outdoor installation

WIND GARDEN

WIND GARDEN is an outdoor installation which consists of a bed of flowers whose blossoms are built to rotate even in presence of very weak wind, without any electrical power. The work gives the possibility to “see” the wind in its action. The design is based on the Darrieus vertical-axis wind turbine. As wind changes during the day and the seasons the dynamic of the installation changes as well.
WIND GARDEN was created in 2013 for the Exhibition “Nuove Geografie Europee” (“New European Geographies”) organised by “Atelier Europa” to represent and promote in a creative way the collaboration between three regions: Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino. In 2014 WIND GARDEN was exposed again for the Exhibition “Europaregion: Lasst Uns Zusammen Wachsen!” (“European Region: let’s flourish together!”) in Bolzano.

Challenge

Creation of an interactive outdoor installation rappresenting the Euregio Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino.

Outcome

The project was inspired by the beauty of the nature of the three regions, and by the attention they pay to renewable energies. The intention was to create a dynamic installation that interacts with natural forces.

The stems of the flowers show some basic information about the Euregio in order to draw the attention of the citizenship to the different domains of cooperation within the European Region of Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino.
