WANDER TOYS

Challenge
Make travelling in the Ultental (South Tyrol) cable car more attractive for visitors through a design intervention.

Outcome
Have you ever wondered why your ears start to pop and your bag of chips blows up when you go for a climb on the mountains? This happens due to changing conditions like temperature, pressure and solar activity.
Wandertoys are created to demonstrate what kind of changes happen when you travel up and down on the mountains. Wandertoys combine some of children’s favourite materials, such as wood and balloons, to stimulate the skills of observation of the nature. Every time you go to the mountains, take your Wandertoy with you and it will tell you what is happening around you.

In particular, the toys demonstrate:

1. changes in atmospheric pressure with the help of balloons incorporated inside of the toy;
2. changes in temperature with the help of color-changing gloves painted with a special temperature-sensitive ink;
3. changes of UV radiation with the help of the cheek circles painted with UV-sensitive ink.
